The Quickest and Easiest Way to Become a Great Putter
November 3, 2015 by Leave a Comment
The keys to great putting are proper face angle at impact and an optimal path for the putter — so says pro golfer, Jim McLean. So to help you become a better, more confident putter, McLean, and his son Jon, developed a golf training aid called the Slot Trainer.
It consists of two pieces that help you achieve path and face angle by creating two “gates” — one for the ball to roll through, the other to alight the putter address and impact.
- the Path Trainer will create the ideal path for your putter
- the Ball Path piece has gates for your putter to swing through and a gate to make sure you’re starting your putt on your intended line
The Slot Trainer is designed for use almost anywhere — practice greens, office, den, bedroom, you name it — and it’s only 1/16-inch thick so it won’t interfere with your stroke.
- Used by PGA Tour Players (Brooks Koepka, Charley Hoffman and Greg Chalmers)
- Creates a Ball Path for getting your putts started online
- Forms a Putter Path Gate for making sure the putter travels down the line
- Great for indoor or outdoor use, right or left handed players
- Includes the two base pieces and a small storage bag that fits in your golf bag
Ball Path
When the ball starts on your intended line, it gives you the best chance of going in the hole. Start it off-line and it will take a miracle to drop into the cup.
The Ball Path Trainer gives you two very important gates to assure the starting line of the ball…
- The Putter Gate and Face Line makes sure you align the putter properly. Swing the putter through the gate and it’s a “sweet spot” impact.
- The Ball Gate is the test if the putter face was square at impact. When you roll the ball through the ball gate, the ball is on the intended line. Hit a tee and you know the face has turned during the stroke; now you can make the proper adjustment.
Want to challenge yourself a bit? Set two golf balls on the larger holes at the opening, instead of tees. It adds to the difficulty and makes practice more fun.
Putter Path
The Putter Path Trainer is a template to help you set up your ideal practice station.
- Line it up to the cup
- Mark the correct face alignment
- Remove the Trainer and you will see a perfect line for your putter.
Set up your ideal putter path. Insert tees in the slots to create a path for your putter to swing. You can use just one tee to reinforce what you want, or put tees in all four corners of your path.
Perfect face alignment and perfect path gates will help you setup properly and make your best stroke.

Why Choose Bob Lewis for Golf Lessons?

A Note to Bobby’s Followers
As most of you know, Bobby passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. The loss of this amazing man will be felt by those who knew and loved him for all time.
Golf was Bobby’s passion and he loved helping others improve their game more than anything. While he can no longer teach in person, it would please him greatly to know you are benefiting from his work through the golf instruction guide he wrote.
“38 Tips for Breaking 80” is available at a special price for a limited time.
My students say it best…
They consistently report a high satisfaction and success rate because the combination of my teaching methods PLUS the advantage of video technology has helped them not just fix a problem…
…they are seeing real, tangible results and improvement. And that leads to playing more golf because my students enjoy the game more.
I don’t just teach golf – I genuinely want you to become a more confident, consistent player so that you get more enjoyment from the game.
Don’t take my word for it. My students have a thing or two to say about their experience with me…
Chuck Poquette, Sun Valley, CA: I watched both videos. Damn, I am impressed big time thank you Bob!!! You are the best teacher and make easy for me to pick it up. I know I have more work to do. Sunday at the driving ranch I was doing real good even my driver straight about 70 percent.
John Goodwin, Ventura CA: Bob Lewis was suggested to me by a scratch golfer that I know well and trust. He was not wrong in suggesting Bob. Right from the first lesson I knew that I was on to something good for my golf game. I have never been consistent and I never had confidence in my shot making. Bob showed me a set-up that I can duplicate with accuracy time and time again. I am still learning distant accuracy, but this comes with hitting the ball longer than I have in the past. One of the changes he made in my game showed up right away and that was putting. I know that if nothing else changes, I will take strokes off my game because of being a better putter. I now have confidence in what I am doing on the green. I’m still working on my driver. At 73 I still think I should be able to hit it out 250 yards, but I am more consistent and accurate. Bob has given me a game to work on. It’s only going to get better and that’s a fact!
Mark Nolan, Ventura CA: I signed up for a series of 24 lessons from Bob and couldn’t be happier with the results. After years of playing “at” the game of golf, (mixed results) with whatever swing felt right on a given day, I decided I needed a pro to teach me a swing I can stick with moving forward. Bob is that pro, and the One Plane Swing is that swing. I am still unlearning old habits, but I finally have a short checklist of things to remember for all aspects of the game, that I can use for life. I am going to continue to work with Bob to keep this going!
Jerry Morrill, Oxnard CA: Bob, I really did enjoy the lessons and I know I have improved. I even called Tom and Sandy Show and actually got to give you a plug on radio. I hope it helped you.
Sue Moore, Moorpark CA: My husband gave me the golf lesson package for Christmas. When I met Bob for the first lesson I knew we would get along. His approach to the game of golf is unlike so many other instructors. It should be FUN! Bob’s explanation of the golf swing helps you understand why and how things happen. The hands on lessons, written instructions and video analysis are all part of Bob’s method of teaching that provide you with a comprehensive learning experience. The videos are a great reference when things go wrong on the course! I would highly recommend Bob to anyone who wants to learn to play better golf and have fun.
Ray Andrews, Ventura CA: I took a lesson from Bob he addressed a lot of my issues in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing some help.
Chris Neal, Oxnard CA: Hey Bob I hope you are well. I took a lesson with you in February and I did enjoy it. My overall impression was positive and the lesson went well over the allotted time which was fantastic. One particular tip was that my back foot was coming off the ground way too soon. Nowadays this is my major swing thought and my contact has gotten better. The online video is also great and still 8 months later it is useful. I would recommend you and I will likely be back.
You can be like John, Mark, Jerry, Sue, Ray, Chris and hundreds of other golfers who have become more confident, seen lasting changes in their game, are getting lower scores, and enjoying the game a lot more.
You’ll find a friendly, supportive environment working with me. I love golf … I love people … and I’m confident you’ll have fun learning.
Every testimonial on this site is true and correct as submitted by my students. Their results are individual cases and do not guarantee that you will get the exact same results because results vary widely and nothing works 100% of the time. If you follow and practice the proven methods I teach, you will see noticeable improvement in your game.
